SPARRING: Or fighting, is a natural and common action of the human’s desire to survive.

*Testing Sparring: Usually performed at School Rank Testing, where there is no actual contact between partners.  It is an opportunity to “show off” your favorite and best, kicks, strikes and blocks.  Also known as “Hollywood” Sparring.

*Tournament Point Sparring: Wearing protective gear, Partners will strike and kick at body zones to be awarded points.  This is done at Tournaments in a precise time frame of 2 minutes or for a maximum number of five points.  Which ever comes first.

There are only two target zones for awarding of points.

1.  The Head – Only Kicks may be targeted to the head.  NO HAND TECHNIQUES may be targeted to the Head!

2.    The front of the body covered by the Chest Protector -  This area may be targeted for both hand and foot techniques.

The Points are as follows:

·        1 point is awarded for a kick or strike to the front of the body (considered above the belt, below the throat and from side seam to side seam)

·        2 points are awarded for a kick to the head (no hand strikes to the head or throat)

·        2 points are awarded for a jump kick to the front of the body.

·        3 points are awarded for a jump kick to the head.
