A+ Martial Arts

Each Class begins with the students signing in and lining up when called to by their instructors. REMEMBER: NO JEWELRY IS WORN IN CLASS, or at testing or tournament.  Please leave it at home or take it off before class.

There can be one or more instructors per class.  There will be a variety of instructors as each person learns and teaches from a different point of view.  One instructor may say just the right thing to help a student understand something another instructor has been trying to teach.  It is a smart way to teach, and the children learn to respect and follow the commands regardless of who is giving them in the school.

Students are responsible for arriving at class with the weapons they practice and the sparring equipment required in classes at the Green belt level and higher. This equipment is left beside the mats for easy access. It consists of mouthpiece, headgear, chest protector, (for boys, protective cup), feet and hand guards, optional shin guards and forearm guards.

The class lines up facing the Instructor. (Traditionally facing east towards the arts Korean heritage). Each student stands in accordance to rank on the Do-Jahng (Martial arts school) work out floor.

To the Instructors left is the student of highest rank in this class.  If there is more than one of the same high rank, the one receiving rank first is considered highest.  If several received rank at the same time, the oldest is highest.  One “row” consists of 6 students, then the next row forms behind the high rank, continuing from highest to lowest.  All is dependent on the number of students attending the class.

·  The Instructor may ask the High rank to begin the class, or may choose to do it him/herself.

·   The command Charyut is given to bring the students to attention.

·  Then the command Kyungneh - to bow with respect to the instructor and the Songahm teachings of TAEKWONDO, and where they came from.

·   Next they are directed to recite the “Principles of Tae Kwon Do or Ho Shin Do” to practice by.

·   Shejahk – meaning begin.  The class responds with “Sir or Ma’am”.

·   The instructor will start with a direct goal for that class and what they will be doing to achieve it.  Any announcements will be said then as well.

·   Class usually begins with some exercises to warm up the body and get the heart rate going, followed with some stretches in preparation for the physical work.  Forms, Board breaking, one-step/ sparring, weapons, self-defense techniques and life skills are all some of what will be taught. The classes are taught to help prepare the student for rank testing. All of the above can be required during testing, so should be learned and practiced during class and at home.

·   At the end of class, the instructor will instruct his class to put away their gear and line up as they began.

·   Again she/he may ask the high rank to bow the class out or do it him/herself.

·   The command Charyut is given to bring the students to attention.

·  Then the command Kyungneh - to bow with respect to the instructor.

·    Shejahk – meaning begin.  The class responds with “Sir or Ma’am”.

*  The second highest rank then commands the class to “Face high rank” and every one in the first row only turns to their right.  The Second highest rank then gives the command Charyut to bring the students to attention.

·   Then the command Kyungneh - to bow with respect to the class high rank, first and second high ranks shake hands.

·        The Instructor will then dismiss the class.
